Threading Your HK UMP Barrel – A Cheaper Alternative to Adapters
Have you noticed that little lug on the front of an HK UMP barrel? If so, you’ve probably also seen the high price tag on adapters just to get direct thread.
What if there was a better way? Well, there is! Instead of spending extra cash on an adapter, you can thread the UMP barrel directly—giving you a clean, reliable, and cost friendly option.

Why Thread Your UMP Barrel?
A customer wanted to run a suppressor on his UMP in .40 S&W, but he already had one with .578×28 TPI threads (used for .45 ACP). Instead of buying an adapter, we just threaded his barrel to match his suppressor.
This saved him money and eliminated extra parts.
Is the HK UMP Barrel Easy to Thread?
Yes! The HK UMP barrel is easy to remove, and once it’s out, threading is a no-brainer. But thread pitch varies by caliber:
- .40 S&W barrels are typically done to 9/16×24 TPI.
- 9mm barrels are typically done to 1/2×28 or 1/2×32 TPI.
- .45 ACP barrels are typically done to .578×28 TPI.
The UMP barrel has enough outer diameter (OD) to thread to these thread pitches in most cases.
The Best Way to Avoid Expensive Adapters
If you want a clean and easy way to suppress your UMP without paying extra for proprietary adapters, direct barrel threading is the way to go. Not only is it sleek, but it’s also a secure and hassle-free attachment for your suppressor.

Now you have an easy and cheap workaround for those pricey adapters. You’re welcome! 😉
